Tragedy struck a quiet neighborhood in East Jakarta on Thursday morning. Three construction workers died inside a deep culvert in Bambu Apus, Cipayung. The rescue team pulled their cold bodies from the dark hole before noon.

A third man followed to rescue them both, but the invisible trap did not spare him. "The workers entered the culvert, and one fainted halfway down the ladder," Wahid said. "His friend went to help but fainted too. Then another went in and also fainted. Three men died."
Authorities have not confirmed the exact cause of death, but hazardous gas is suspected. The local police Inafis unit transported the bodies to RS Polri Kramat Jati for formal identification. Investigators remain at the site to determine what went wrong in the shadows beneath the city.
