The sedan bore no license plates, leaving investigators with few immediate clues regarding its ownership. Police officers suspected the vehicle had been stationed on the flyover since Saturday.
Based on statements from South Jakarta Traffic Police Chief Kompol Mujiyanto, patrolling officers discovered the vehicle during a routine sweep on Sunday night. The authorities needed to clear the path quickly as the city prepared to implement a temporary one-way traffic system heading north the following morning.
The operation required specialized equipment from the Transportation Agency (Dishub). "The car was locked and could not be moved by a standard tow truck because it is an automatic transmission," Mujiyanto said on Monday. The vehicle was eventually lifted and secured at the South Jakarta Metro Police headquarters.
Authorities have urged the rightful owner of the vehicle to step forward and claim it at the police station. Investigations remain ongoing to determine why the license plates were missing and why the vehicle was abandoned on a major city thoroughfare.
