The Putri Cempo waste-to-energy plant in Solo where two fatal accidents occurred

The city government of Solo has not yet determined if negligence caused two fatal workplace accidents at the Putri Cempo waste-to-energy plant. The facility is managed by PT Solo Citra Metro Plasma Power. Two workers died in recent months, raising concerns over safety protocols at the waste treatment site.

According to Solo Mayor Respati Ardi, preliminary information indicated errors at the site. The mayor spoke from his office on Friday. He stated that the administration is still gathering facts and has not reached a final conclusion regarding the responsibility of the company or the workers.

The accidents happened within a short span of time. A worker named Mohamad Aris died on Sunday after eleven days of medical treatment following an accident at the plant. Earlier in March, another employee, Edy Saputra, died instantly at the site after falling into a waste-grinding machine.

Based on reports from the city administration, officials are now tightening supervision of occupational health and safety standards at the facility. Respati noted that while PT Solo Citra Metro Plasma Power already has a safety system in place, inspectors will monitor the operations directly to ensure strict compliance with standard operating procedures.

The city government is also reviewing the performance of the company. The operator had previously received a warning letter from the mayor because waste processing targets were not met. The company remains under government supervision while officials evaluate both safety practices and production output.
