Based on the statement from the Surakarta Deputy Police Chief, Kombes Sigit, the mother gave birth to the child on July 1, 2026. Following the delivery, she traveled to Yogyakarta to meet HDP. The couple stayed at a hotel near HDP's workplace to deliberate on the fate of the infant. Their initial plan was to leave the newborn at an orphanage.
The plan changed on the morning of July 4, 2026. The couple took an online taxi ride to Lempuyangan Station in Yogyakarta. They boarded a commuter train toward Klaten, then turned back toward Yogyakarta. During this transit, they crossed paths with the Sancaka train.
According to the police report, the suspects entered the executive carriage of the Sancaka train. HDP waited near the door while NIZ placed the infant inside the women's toilet. The couple then fled the scene, taking another commuter train back to Yogyakarta before proceeding to the Jombor bus terminal.
The police uncovered the crime through rigorous interrogation of witnesses and the tracking of closed-circuit television footage at various stations. According to Commissioner Ratna Carlina of the Women and Children Protection Unit, the evidence collected from the security cameras proved vital in identifying and capturing the couple.
