Solo Science Museum Launch Delayed Beyond March Schedule

The Solo Science Museum building project facing administrative delays in Central Java

The launch of the Solo Science Museum in the Pedaringan area of Jebres District, Solo, Central Java, has faced unexpected delays. The project relied on grant funding and carried an initial completion target for March 2026. By mid-July 2026, the gates remained closed and the municipal government offered no definitive timeline for the grand opening.

According to Solo Mayor Respati Ardi, the city administration cannot yet guarantee when the public will gain access to the facility. The mayor remained noncommittal about whether the opening would occur within the calendar year. "Please pray that it will be fast. We will wait and see," Ardi stated during an interview on Thursday.

The delay stands in contrast to earlier projections provided by Mayapada Group Founder and Chairman Dato" Sri Tahir. Based on statements made by Tahir in December 2025, construction progress was steady and the acquisition of exhibits was moving forward as intended. At the time, Tahir expressed hope that the museum would open its doors by the third month of the year.

A central attraction for the new institution is an authentic 20-meter dinosaur fossil loaned from China. The ancient specimen was secured to serve as a major tourist draw for the city of Solo. Plans dictated that the fossil would remain on display for a six-month period, though the current delay leaves the exhibition timeline uncertain.
