Based on the reports, the hosts scrutinized several candidates backed by Mamdani, including Darializa Avila Chevalier. Haines stated that Chevalier attended an anti-Israel rally on October 8, 2023, immediately following the Hamas attacks, and directly labeled the candidate an antisemite.
The response from the political camp was swift and severe. The aide warned network officials that such comments could damage future media access for both the politician and his aligned candidates. This clash comes at a time when the talk show faces separate scrutiny from the FCC regarding equal time rules for political figures.
Chevalier has faced mounting pressure over past social media activity. According to investigations by CNN, deleted posts from her former accounts revealed statements supporting Marxist principles and calling for the abolition of the police. Representatives for both ABC and the politician's office did not immediately provide comment on the matter.
