Police arrested a 26-year-old man on suspicion of the murder of Ann Widdecombe. The former British member of Parliament and reality television star was found dead in her home on Thursday. She was 78 years old.

Based on a statement from Devon and Cornwall Police Assistant Chief Constable Matt Longman, investigators do not believe the killing was politically motivated. Longman stated that the murder enquiry is in its early stages but moving at a significant pace.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer called the news shocking and expressed his condolences to her family and friends. Starmer stated that Widdecombe was a distinguished politician with many achievements. He noted that the security of lawmakers is of the utmost importance.
Widdecombe served in Parliament and later achieved fame on reality television shows such as "Strictly Come Dancing" and "Celebrity Big Brother". She later joined the Brexit Party and became a spokesperson for Reform UK. In a post on X, former Prime Minister Boris Johnson praised her as a heroic Brexiteer and a great speaker.
