Motorcycle Thief Shoots Brave Ojek Driver in Matraman

A motorcycle thief shot an ojek driver in the Matraman area of East Jakarta. The driver had attempted to block two suspects riding a motorcycle. The area was busy when the violence occurred.

According to an eyewitness named Evi, the victim was waiting for a passenger who was buying medicine on Palmeriam Street. She saw the driver obstruct the thieves. Then came the sound of gunfire.

Based on Evi's account, cries of "thief" echoed from the direction of the Palmeriam Market before the shooting. More than ten residents pursued the two suspects. The victim lay on the ground, bleeding heavily from a gunshot wound to his thigh.

"He did not fall at first," Evi said. "When I shouted about the blood, he collapsed." Bystanders took him to a community health center, but he required transfer to a hospital for proper treatment.

The suspects fired while riding their motorcycle and fled toward Matraman Raya Street. Their faces remained hidden behind masks. Evi stated that people saw them but feared the gunfire. She ran from the scene out of fear.

The motorcycle owner, Ilham, said the incident began when residents chased the suspects. The men had attempted to steal an RX-King motorcycle from a boarding house near the shooting site. Ilham discovered the theft from inside his room.

Ilham was cooking when he heard noises outside. He thought a courier had arrived. Within ten minutes, he checked the situation and banged on the door. The thieves failed to take the motorcycle and fled.

Ilham pursued them and shouted for help from the neighborhood. "I hid behind a pillar," Ilham said. "Then I spontaneously shouted in front of the gate." His cries alerted the residents who joined the chase.

The owner could not identify the suspects because they wore masks, helmets, and jackets. Following the shooting, police officers arrived at the boarding house to conduct a crime scene investigation and question witnesses.
