Subscribe Sekarang →The hostility dates back to previous years. During a Thursday night religious gathering in 2025, the neighbor blasted loud music to disrupt the prayers. The aggression grew more dangerous during a past Eid al-Fitr celebration. "He brought a machete to our house while the family was gathering. Many witnesses saw it. Unfortunately, we did not have CCTV at the time," Novita said on Friday, July 17, 2026. She added that verbal abuse from the neighbor has become a daily occurrence.
The dispute reportedly began due to a misunderstanding involving a foreign national. Novita explained that her mother was joking with her foreign husband, who did not understand Indonesian well. To comfort a crying child, the mother playfully used the phrase "crazy person" to make the child laugh. Based on Novita's account, the neighbor overheard the remark, mistakenly took it as a personal insult, and harbored resentment ever since.
A viral CCTV video captured other incidents of harassment. The footage shows the man riding a motorcycle in front of the house before throwing a helmet into the yard. On another day, the same man was filmed dumping trash onto the property, which led to an altercation despite interventions by other residents.
The Metro Depok Regional Police have intervened in the matter. According to the Chief of Criminal Investigation, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Made Gede Oka, the victim filed an official police report on the night of Wednesday, July 15, 2026. The case is registered under file number LP/B/1531/VII/2026/SPKT/POLRES METRO DEPOK. Investigators are currently questioning witnesses to resolve the ongoing neighborhood conflict.
