The decision is made. Real Madrid will not pursue a transfer for Arsenal midfielder Martin Zubimendi this summer. Jose Mourinho is now in charge of the Spanish giants for his second stint, and the club remains in the market for a midfield presence. Yet, the doors to the Estadio Bernabeu are closed for the Spaniard.

According to Onda Cero journalist Alberto Pereiro, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has no intention of reviving interest in the player. When asked directly by a supporter on social media whether Zubimendi could join the club, Pereiro answered with a single word: "NO". The journalist noted that the player faces a complicated year ahead after a grueling season.

The interest from Madrid is old. Xabi Alonso wanted the midfielder when he took the manager's seat at the end of the 2024/25 campaign. Based on reports from AS, Alonso informed the club hierarchy that Zubimendi could replace Toni Kroos and serve as the compass needle for the team. The player waited for Madrid, convinced that playing under Alonso was an unmissable opportunity.

Real Madrid hesitated. By the time the club explored the transfer, Arsenal had already secured the deal. The English club paid 70.4 million euros to Real Sociedad last summer to finalize a favorable structural agreement, despite a lower release clause. Zubimendi subsequently helped Arsenal reach the Champions League final and earned a place in the Spain squad for the 2026 World Cup.
