The newly appointed Ambassador of Qatar to Indonesia, His Excellency Dr. Sultan bin Mubarak Saad Al-Dosari, visited the private residence of former President Joko Widodo, popularly known as Jokowi, in Sumber, Banjarsari, Solo, Central Java, on Friday, 17 July 2026. The meeting marked one of his first official diplomatic engagements since assuming his post in the country.

The discussion remained informal without heavy political agendas. Dr. Sultan noted that the conversation focused primarily on strengthening bilateral ties and getting to know the former Indonesian president better. "I only visited Mr. Joko Widodo because it was scheduled beforehand," Dr. Sultan stated on Friday.
"We only discussed ordinary matters regarding the relationship between Qatar and Indonesia. I also came here as the new ambassador. May this Friday bring blessings," the diplomat added.
Based on a statement from Jokowi, the former president used the opportunity to gain insights into current geopolitical developments in the Gulf region. "During the visit of the new Ambassador of Qatar, His Excellency Dr. Sultan, we talked about light topics. In particular, I asked a lot about the latest situation in the Middle East," Jokowi explained.
Dr. Sultan bin Mubarak Saad Al-Dosari is a veteran in international diplomacy. Before being appointed as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Qatar to Indonesia in 2025, he had built a long and distinguished career within the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
His diplomatic journey began in 2009 when he joined the ministry as a Third Secretary in the Human Rights Department. His international experience widened in 2011 when he was appointed as the Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the Qatari Embassy to Belgium, the European Union, and NATO.
From 2011 to 2018, Dr. Sultan served as a Consul at the Qatari Embassy in Paris, where he managed political and economic affairs. He later continued his service as the First Secretary in the European Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 2018 until 2022.
