China widens Japan export curbs targeting defense entities and research institutes

Beijing escalated its trade restrictions on Monday. The Chinese government blacklisted four Japanese government defense research institutes and imposed tighter export controls on dozens of other entities from Japan. This move intensifies a months-long campaign by China to restrict Tokyo's access to dual-use goods, including critical rare earth minerals.

According to the Ministry of Commerce, twenty entities were added to the official export control list. The targeted organizations include the National Institute for Defense Studies alongside specific research centers for ground, naval, and air systems. Several industrial units operating under Mitsubishi Electric and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries were also named in the new restrictions.

Based on the official statement from Beijing, domestic exporters and overseas organizations are now strictly prohibited from transferring Chinese-origin dual-use items to these specific entities. The ministry declared that any ongoing activities involving the restricted goods must stop immediately.
