Violent Mob Backlash Turns Narcotics Bust into Tragic Fatality
A narcotics operation in Tumbang Kalemei Village, Central Kalimantan, resulted in tragedy when a drug lord and a local mob ambushed law enforcement officers. A team of 12 personnel from the Katingan Police anti-narcotics unit, led by AKP Affan Effendi, initiated the raid on July 1, 2026, targeting a known methamphetamine distribution hub.
While the initial suspect was successfully restrained, several armed accomplices unexpectedly attacked the officers with machetes. The suspect's family further escalated the situation by provoking nearby villagers, sparking a violent riot that led to the immediate death of Aiptu Anumerta Yudhi and left two other officers missing.

Following an intensive search operation, Bripda Nopandri was discovered dead, while the body of Aiptu Sumaryanto was retrieved from a local river by a joint search team consisting of regional police, military personnel, and rescue agencies. "We extend our deepest condolences, and this case has become a critical priority for the national headquarters," stated Brig. Gen. Eko Hadi Santoso, Director of Narcotics at Bareskrim Polri.
A massive manhunt has been launched by a joint task force from Bareskrim Polri and the Central Kalimantan Regional Police to capture the suspects who fled into the surrounding jungle. Authorities have urged local residents to provide any verifiable information regarding the whereabouts of the perpetrators to ensure they face prosecution.
