Hanoi Seeks Strategic Adjustments for Ring Road 5 Infrastructure Plan
The Hanoi People's Committee recently submitted its official evaluation and feedback regarding the pre-feasibility study report for the Ring Road 5 construction project in the Hanoi Capital Region. Originally drafted by the Ministry of Construction, the comprehensive master plan aims to establish a highly interconnected transport network linking neighboring provinces. While city authorities broadly consensus with the primary zoning outlines, they are advocating for major strategic adjustments regarding project scale.
Under the new proposal, municipal authorities want the capital region's section to feature a synchronized eight-lane expressway design instead of narrower standard configurations. The adjustment is intended to future-proof regional logistics against rapidly increasing traffic volumes between Hanoi and peripheral industrial hubs. The Ministry of Construction is currently reviewing the technical adjustments alongside cross-provincial planning agencies to estimate total budget shifts.

"Adapting the infrastructure footprint early ensures the corridor can accommodate long-term economic corridors without requiring disruptive future expansions," stated a city transport official during the review panel. Local administrators noted that aligning the cross-section with heavy-duty transit requirements will drastically cut transit times for commercial goods. The adjustment aligns with the national master plan to accelerate public investment in high-impact metropolitan arterial roads.
Beyond the lane expansions, Hanoi's revised submission details updated guidelines for integrating local traffic collection networks along the main expressway route. City planners emphasized the inclusion of advanced smart traffic management systems, designated interchanges, and optimized overpasses to minimize gridlock at provincial border points. These logistical refinements are expected to significantly enhance socio-economic connectivity throughout the entire northern key economic zone.
