Expanding Educational Infrastructure for Underprivileged Communities

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung announced the initiative following direct presidential directives to scale up the capacity of "Sekolah Rakyat" (People's Schools) within the capital city. The regional administration is currently scouting strategic locations that can facilitate the expansive boarding facilities required for the project.

The commitment was formalized during a joint inspection with Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf at a public high school in South Jakarta. This large-scale infrastructure project is designed to align with existing city education policies aimed at bridging the academic gap for low-income families.

"We are thoroughly assessing potential sites that can support a boarding school setup for 1,000 students," Governor Pramono stated. He emphasized that the outstanding academic drive shown by students from disadvantaged backgrounds mirrors the city's fundamental mission to break the cycle of poverty through high-quality education.

Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf revealed that the central government has already identified 10 pilot locations across Jakarta for this educational expansion. Eight of these sites are undergoing extensive renovations using state assets certified by the Ministry of Public Works, while the city's first permanent dedicated facility remains under active construction.
